Youth Information Technology Teacher Training Session Held in Hong Kong

A teacher training session for the Youth IT Training Project was held in Hong Kong on 12 October 2025 at HKBU Affiliated School Wong Kam Fai Secondary & Primary School. Forty-one technology teachers from schools across Hong Kong attended.

The session focused on two things: the assessment framework for the YAI Youth Artificial Intelligence Technology Proficiency Test, and classroom use of the UCMAKE artificial intelligence hardware.

The Youth IT Training Project is run jointly by the MIIT Education and Examination Center, the China Electronics Education Society, and China Industry and Information Publishing Group. This session was organised by Beijing Xintong Media and the Youth IT Training Workstation, with technical support from the Hong Kong Branch and IITS Hong Kong, and hosted by HKBUAS Wong Kam Fai. Teachers who pass the assessment receive a teacher training certificate issued by the MIIT Education and Examination Center.

Instructors worked through the YAI assessment system in detail — its objectives, its content framework and its marking standards — so that teachers could see clearly what the qualification asks of students. The UCMAKE hardware session covered what the equipment does, how to operate it, and how to build a lesson around it, with teachers working on the devices directly.

Teachers reported that the session was substantive and directly applicable: it deepened their understanding of youth AI education and improved their practical teaching, and would help them guide students in Hong Kong through information technology and towards a habit of innovation.

The Hong Kong Branch and IITS Hong Kong said they would continue to run training of this kind, building a better platform for exchange and for the development of information technology education in Hong Kong schools.
